Week 7/8??

I got back from Toronto and Regina and didn't feel really good. I haven't gotten my energy completely yet so I haven't gone to check on the notebook.

I like reading the notebook on my way home from work when I am feeling especially down or lonely. It is a great source of comfort for me and I usually get some energy after reading it. It is apparent from reading the entries that maybe people aren't so different from one another after all.

The experiment has worked better than I ever would have imagined. I bumped into someone who works at the cafe and they want to put the second book in. The current notebook is almost filled up.

People are opening up. It is why I love reading the entries. I often wonder why people are opening up. I think the notebook has to do with it. I think writing makes it easier for people to express their feelings because they may feel that they aren't necessarily sharing with someone becuase there is no audience. I think people also are forced to sort and determine their feelings before they write.

I was just watching a documentry on a elementry school teacher in Japan who made kids write and read on a daily bases in a notebook "notebook letters" expressing their feelings. And it was apparent that that the members of the class were very open with each other and i think this notebook was a huge part of this. I believe writing in the notebook got the kids to open up and truely express their feelings, and when these feelings were expressed to the class when the entries were read, it caused other people to express their feelings to the class. The teacher talked about this as empathy in the documentary. It is evendent that something similar is happening in the notebook at dgregs as you can see people responding to other people's entries or talking about their feelings and experiences thay had that were similar to something in aprevious entry.

I will make an effort to get back to the notebook next week.
